California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), and the federal Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA). According to these statutes, you have the right to be free from discrimination on the basis of a disability. You may also have the right to participate in an informal process designed to protect you from discrimination on the basis of a disability, called the Interactive Process.

The Interactive Process is an informal process, in which we communicate with each other about the following: the nature of any medical condition; any limitation(s) the condition may impose on your abilities to perform one or more essential functions of your position; identification of forms of accommodation which may or may not enable you to overcome those limitations; assess the reasonableness of each form of accommodation; and if possible, select the most reasonable form(s) of accommodation. The Interactive Process is an ongoing process of communication between you and the District which may be composed of meetings, correspondences (e.g. letters, faxes, emails), and personal and phone conversations.
