Michael Vargas
Michael Vargas was elected to the Elk Grove Unified School District Board of Education in November 2022 to represent Trustee Area 2.
 
Mr. Vargas is a Partner at Rimon Law, P.C. in the firm’s corporate practice group, where he specializes in multi-million dollar corporate finance transactions, mergers, and acquisitions. Michael works primarily with technology companies and startups, serving as a strategic advisor and partner in major corporate transactions. Prior to joining Rimon, Mr. Vargas worked for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the American Civil Liberties Union, and served as a Summer Law Clerk for Judge Susan Richard Nelson on the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota.
 
Mr. Vargas also serves as an adjunct professor at the Santa Clara University School of Law, where he teaches courses in business law, business organizations, corporate law, corporate transactions, and startup law. He also serves as an adjunct professor at the McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, where he teaches employment and civil rights law. From 2018 to 2021, Mr. Vargas served as the Chair of the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Business Law Education Committee, which advises law schools on best practices for teaching business law courses and assists law firms in identifying competencies expected of early-career attorneys.
 
In 2022, Mr. Vargas was appointed to serve on the ABA’s national Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Commission, which advises the ABA on national LGBTQ+ inclusion policy, provides guidance on the ABA’s national lobbying efforts, and funds scholarships for LGBTQ+ law students. Mr. Vargas also serves on the boards of the Sacramento County Bar Association and the American Constitution Society (Sacramento Chapter).
 
Prior to becoming an attorney, Mr. Vargas worked as an educational administrator at the University of Southern California, where he worked with students in transition, first as an administrator for USC’s dual-enrollment program with LAUSD, and then working directly with students in the residence halls and as a career advisor. While working in education, Mr. Vargas specialized in educational equity, student development, and program assessment.
 
Mr. Vargas earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in political science from the University of Southern California, a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in postsecondary administration and student affairs from the Rossier School at the University of Southern California, and the Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of Minnesota Law School.
