Superintendent's Message

April 27, 2023

Dear Elk Grove Unified Parents, Guardians and Families,

As we come to the end of another academic year, I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on the past year and celebrate some of the successes and accomplishments of our students, staff and community. We lived our mission to have every student, learning in every subject, in every classroom, every day, throughout these past nine months. As engaged parents and guardians, you are aware of the thousands of events that take place on our campuses; I am thrilled to highlight a few firsts that took place in Elk Grove Unified.

First, I am proud to announce that our district launched its first Elementary Black Student Union. This club, led by enthusiastic and committed staff and students, is a significant step towards creating a more welcoming and inclusive environment for all our students. Next, I want to congratulate the Pleasant Grove High School ladies golf team; they were the Delta League champions, Division 1 Section champions, and they won the school’s first Section Masters Title. We are incredibly proud of this team and all our student-athletes. I look forward to more successes in the future. Lastly, I want to highlight our first collaboration with the Elk Grove Fine Arts Center. This partnership was a unique opportunity for both student and employee artists to display their hard work and creativity in the community. Click here to see more highlights of the 2022-2023 school year.

I know these accomplishments could not have happened if it was not for our dedicated employees helping our students to thrive. I am also pleased to share that the district has completed contract negotiations with all its labor unions through June 2024. I am fortunate to have a committed and collaborative work force focused on the needs of students, and I am proud to say that the relationships with our bargaining units continue to remain strong. I am also encouraged by our current stable financial situation. This stability puts us in a position to offer extremely competitive salary increases that will help to ensure that we continue to recruit and retain the best and the brightest to serve our diverse community. We will continue to hire both certificated and classified employees throughout the end of the school year and into the summer. In preparation for next school year, we have many job opportunities. If you are interested in joining the EGUSD team, visit Elk Grove Unified on EDJOIN for all openings or come to our classified job fair in the afternoon of June 14, 2023, at Monterey Trail High School.

I know the last two months of school tend to be busy months filled with open houses, performances, award ceremonies, senior nights and various promotions and graduations. I am especially looking forward to our upcoming graduation ceremonies. Due to the Sacramento Kings making the playoffs, after a 17-year long drought, we are working on graduation contingency plans in case they become necessary and will communicate our plans as soon as they are definite. These events are always a highlight of the academic year, and we look forward to celebrating the accomplishments of our graduating seniors.

In closing I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their continued support of our school district. We deeply appreciate our family and community partnerships, which we know also help keep our schools safe. The safety and security of our students and staff is our top priority, and as a reminder, we encourage all members of our community to be vigilant, and if you “see something or know something, please say something.” We also urge parents and guardians to talk to their children about the importance of safety and security in school. We know we cannot do this alone; we need the support and cooperation of our entire community to ensure that our schools are as safe as possible, so our students can continue to thrive.

The 2022-23 school year was a busy but terrific school year. I look forward to meeting many parents, students, and families at upcoming celebrations. We are immensely proud of our students and their accomplishments, and we look forward to seeing them continue to excel in the years to come. Have a safe and eventful summer!

Be well,
Chris Hoffman
