Student Board Member

Anoushka VyasElk Grove Unified is proud to introduce its 2026-2027 Student Board Member, Anoushka Vyas, a senior from Franklin High School. The EGUSD School Board voted and confirmed Anoushka as the District’s Student Board Member at the May 5, 2026 Board meeting. Anoushka will serve a one-year term as preferential voting member at EGUSD Board meetings from July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027.

Anoushka has worked to expand student opportunities within humanities and public speaking whilst creating a welcoming space for EGUSD students to connect and learn from one another. As President of Speech and Debate at Franklin High School, she has led her team to win their first regional Sweepstakes award. To promote the program's longevity, she founded and now coaches the Toby Johnson Middle School Debate Team, which has won numerous awards over the past two years.

Motivated to make public speaking and community events more accessible for Elk Grove youth, Anoushka also founded the Sacramento Valley Model UN conference, where she currently serves as the Executive Director. There, she works with a team of students across EGUSD schools to plan and execute free conferences that simulate the United Nation for participants across the Sacramento region. The organization has hosted numerous guest speakers, including Sacramento Councilmember Mai Vang and Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen. Additionally, she serves as a Mathletes president and Women’s Tennis Team Captain.

She looks forward to connecting and collaborating with students across various regions, ethnic identities, and socioeconomic backgrounds to bring their perspectives to the board. While serving as EGUSD’s Student Board Member, Anoushka plans to gather and incorporate more student input into the Student Bill of Rights, increase access to district resources for students and families, and lead new student-centered district initiatives.
